Classic Audio Book - Ulysses by James Joyce (1882-1941) MP3 CD
Still considered one of the most radical works of fiction of the 20th Century, James Joyce’s Ulysses ushered in the era of the modern novel. Loosely based on Homer’s Odyssey, the narrative follows Leopold Bloom and a number of other characters through an ordinary day, twenty four hours, in Dublin, on June 16, 1904. The text is dense and difficult, but perfectly suited to an oral reading, filled with language tricks, puns and jokes, stream of consciousness, and bawdiness.

Pre 1950s » Pre 1950s CDs|Classic MP3 Audio Books
Classic Audio Book MP3 CD - Translated by Louise Shanks Maude (1855-1939) and Aylmer Maude (1858-1938) War and Peace (Russian: Война и мир, Voyna i mir; in original orthography: Война и миръ, Voyna i mir”) is an epic novel by Leo Tolstoy, first published from 1865 to 1869 in Russki Vestnik, which tells the story of Russian society during the Napoleonic Era. It is usually described as one of Tolstoy’s two major masterpieces (the other being Anna Karenina) as well as one of the world’s greatest novels. War and Peace offered a new kind of fiction, with a great many characters caught up in a plot that covered nothing less than the grand subjects indicated by the title, combined with the equally large topics of youth, age and marriage. While today it is considered a novel, it broke so many novelistic conventions of its day that many critics of Tolstoy’s time did not consider it as such. Tolstoy himself considered Anna Karenina (1878) to be his first attempt at a novel in the European sense.

Meyers produced the show, incorporating sound clips of Churchill along with comments by his friends and foes. Many of these sound clips came from a tape library of sound clips that Meyers had been compiling since 1949. Radio audiences were fascinated with this well-put together show.
